The subject of the historic King Arthur is an intellectual problem. There is no proof that such a person actually existed, though there is plenty of inference that he did. There is no evidence, if he existed, who he was, what he did, and why he has inserted himself so deeply into Western mythology and story. On the plus side, such a dearth of information opens the way for many avenues of speculation that makes the subject fascinating to pursue.
Beram Saklatvala has written what I think is the most reasonable explanation of Arthur's existence and deeds, based on his military knowledge ,knowledge of the literature on the subject and insightful speculation based on the geography and history of that Early Britain. I highlly recommend this book, for that reason; it is a good beginning to the vast wealth of literature on Early Britain.

I had zero expectations for this book, but being one of the many King Arthur freaks, I got it on my kindle. The digitizing process failed, and there are too many sad errors, but the author knows his stuff and backs up his theories. I really enjoyed this non fiction book, I really did. I read a similar book when I was younger called the realms of Arthur, and it brought back memories. Arthur existed, and this book makes the case. My only other complaint is the author really didn't cover any historical basis for Merlin, who is mentioned. Arthur, the once and future Duke!!!Product details

Always a fan of history and of the Arthurian legends, I really enjoyed this book. The author relates historic occurrences as plausible explanations of the enduring story of Athur. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that it is a bit "dry." But, all in all, well worth reading.
